In a recent post, I shared a video that a dear friend had shared with me. The video highlighted a couple of valuable financial lessons from the Bible. As stated in the video, the Bible actually has much to say about money.

The LORD is not unaware or disinterested in how we view or handle money. We all are accountable for how we respond to and manage all of God’s provisions during life on earth. The greatest provision of God is the free gift of eternal life through God’s Son, the Savior, Jesus Christ. The Scriptures in Romans 6:23 state:

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (New King James Version, Bible)

As a Christian, first I’m a steward of the gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ. It is the best news on the planet. What is the value of eternal security? While we can’t put a price on it, God paid that price with the precious life of His only Son, Jesus. Because of what He has done for me, my heart is devoted to being a faithful steward to Him.

As to money, permit me to share several verses from God’s Word (the Christian perspective) — all verses from ESV, Bible:

Hebrews 13: 5

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

I Timothy 6:10

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

Matthew 6: 24

No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

Ecclesiastes 5: 10

He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity.

Matthew 6: 19-21

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

I believe many ideas concerning sound investing practices today, as part of an overall strategy for financial stewardship, find their soundness in taking a right perspective towards money. God provides that sound perspective.

Have a great week.
