Because of a dear friend’s influence on me, I have been memorizing the book of Proverbs (a long way to go yet). If my friend (Steve) is reading this, I appreciate you more than I can say. “The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel” is how the book starts. From there, the wisdom of God is declared; the wisdom required for experiencing the life only God can provide.

If you check out the first chapter, it is a template for the ways of wisdom vs the ways of folly. It speaks of trying to find security in this world’s counsel vs. choosing the security of God’s counsel (found in the Holy Scriptures).  It tells us that the price of seeking real security in other sources than God leads to the ways of selfishness and steals the life away of the person who chooses that path in life.

A verse from Chapter 1 of Proverbs that is becoming more precious to me by the day is verse 31.  It says:

“But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil.”

We live in a land of abundance. We come and go as we please. Yet, the world is not a safe place and many sense distress and anguish today. We all need to know there is a rock solid place of safety and security so that we have an anchor within, whatever may come our way. The Scripture tells us that no matter what may come, if I listen to what God has said, He will make me dwell safely and be secure amidst the things that could distress my soul.

Perhaps you enjoy reading and meditating on the Scripture too. The Proverbs have certainly been a recent source of encouragement to me, especially the assurances God provides if I’ll simply listen to His voice.

From time to time, I share pictures of my grandchildren; below, are Sadie Grace and Aiden in their costumes (Minnie Mouse and Captain America). As stated in Psalms 127, vs. 3, surely children are a heritage from the Lord.

I hope this next week is a good one for each of you. May God bless you.
